Managing work-related stress effectively

It is estimated that 40% of all work-related illnesses in 2011/12 were caused by stress according to a survey published last year by the Health and Safety Executive.

The main work activities attributed by respondents as causing their work-related stress, or making it worse, was work pressure, lack of managerial support and work-related violence and bullying.

Employers have a duty to safeguard the health and safety of their staff which includes managing activities to reduce the incidence of stress at work. Those who do not take action to manage the effects of stress on their staff will not obtain the best out of those staff. They will also run an increased risk of stress-related claims.

A recent survey has revealed that 72% of line managers admitted their organisation could do more to support employees through persistently stressful periods. HR Superheroes can help you do this, allowing you more time to focus on running your business.
