The Access to Work scheme has set aside £2 million to help disabled people take up work placements.
The Access to Work scheme provides advice to disabled people and their employers as well as financial support towards the extra costs faced by disabled people at work, for example to cover the cost of support workers, specialist aids and equipment. Up until recently the scheme has only offered support to disabled people who engage in work experience placements that have been organised through Jobcentre Plus. However, the requirement that the placement be organised through Jobcentre Plus has now been removed.
